Mathura
- Sri Krishna Janmabhoomi: the temple complex built over the site believed to be Krishna’s birthplace. Security is strict – phones and bags are not allowed inside.
- Vishram Ghat: where Krishna is said to have rested after defeating Kansa. Evening aarti on the Yamuna is beautiful.
- Dwarkadhish Temple: one of the oldest and largest temples in Mathura.
Gokul
Across the Yamuna, Gokul is where Krishna was raised by Nanda and Yashoda. Visit the Nand Bhavan and the small temples associated with his childhood.
Govardhan
Govardhan hill is said to have been lifted by Krishna to protect the villagers. Devotees perform the Govardhan parikrama – a 21-km walk around the hill – often barefoot. Families can do part of it by vehicle and visit Radha Kund and Shyam Kund.
Nandgaon and Barsana
Nandgaon was the village of Nanda Baba, and Barsana was the home of Radha. Barsana’s Radha Rani temple on the hilltop is the centre of the famous Lathmar Holi. Read our Barsana guide.
