Sonmarg – the “meadow of gold” – is the last big stop before the road climbs to Zoji La and Ladakh. Snow peaks rise on every side, the Sindh river roars through the valley and the Thajiwas glacier sits just above the meadow. It makes one of the best day trips from Srinagar.
- Distance from Srinagar: about 80 km (2.5–3 hours)
- Altitude: about 2,800 m
