Top Udaipur tourist places
City Palace
A huge palace complex built over several centuries by the Mewar rulers, overlooking Lake Pichola. Courtyards, mirror work, miniature paintings and balcony views make it the city’s main attraction. Plan two to three hours.
Lake Pichola boat ride
A boat ride on Lake Pichola – especially near sunset – passes the Lake Palace and Jag Mandir island palace with the City Palace behind you. It is the most iconic Udaipur experience.
Jagdish Temple
A large Indo-Aryan temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu, a short walk from the City Palace, with fine stone carving.
Fateh Sagar Lake
A larger lake with a lively promenade, boating and Nehru Garden island. Lovely in the evening.
Saheliyon Ki Bari
The “garden of the maidens” with fountains, lotus pools and marble pavilions.
Bagore Ki Haveli
An 18th-century haveli turned museum, famous for its evening folk dance show (Dharohar).
Maharana Pratap Smarak and Haldighati
The memorial on Moti Magri hill honours Maharana Pratap, and the Haldighati battlefield museum nearby tells his story – both are included in our itinerary.
Day trip from Udaipur
- Kumbhalgarh Fort, with one of the longest continuous walls in the world.
- Ranakpur Jain Temple, famous for its 1,444 carved pillars.
- Chittorgarh Fort, which our tour visits on the way to Pushkar.
Food and shopping
Try dal baati churma, gatte ki sabzi and mirchi vada. Shop for miniature paintings, silver jewellery, bandhani fabrics and leather goods in the old city bazaars around Jagdish Temple.
Best time to visit
September to March is ideal. After a good monsoon (August–September) the lakes are full and the hills green – arguably Udaipur’s most beautiful time.
