The main temples of Vrindavan
Banke Bihari Temple
The most beloved temple in Vrindavan. The curtain in front of the deity is drawn open and closed every few minutes during darshan. It is extremely crowded on weekends and festivals – go early on a weekday and keep your belongings close.
Prem Mandir
A modern temple of white Italian marble with carvings of Krishna’s leelas. Its evening light and music show is a highlight for families.
ISKCON Vrindavan (Krishna Balaram Mandir)
Clean, peaceful and well organised, with kirtan throughout the day. A good temple for elderly travellers.
Nidhivan
A sacred grove of twisted tulsi trees where, according to belief, Krishna performs the raas leela at night. Visitors must leave before evening.
Radha Raman and Radha Vallabh
Historic temples loved by devotees for their traditions and early-morning darshan.
Darshan tips
- Timings change with the season and close in the afternoon – plan mornings and evenings.
- Keep shoes, phones and bags secure; use temple shoe stands.
- Beware of monkeys – they snatch spectacles and phones.
- Dress modestly and carry small change for offerings.
