Garh Palace and the Chitrashala

Bundi’s palace climbs the hillside in layers of balconies and pavilions. Inside, the Chitrashala is a small courtyard whose walls are covered with blue-and-green murals of Krishna’s life, court scenes and processions – among the best preserved Rajput paintings anywhere.

Taragarh Fort

Above the palace sits Taragarh, the “Star Fort”, with wild, atmospheric ruins, water tanks and sweeping views over the town. Monkeys are common – keep food out of sight.

Bundi’s stepwells

Chand Baori, Abhaneri

On the way from Bundi towards Dausa, our tour stops at Abhaneri, home of Chand Baori – a stepwell with about 3,500 narrow steps arranged in perfect triangles down 13 storeys. Built in the 8th–9th century, it is one of the deepest and most photographed stepwells in India. Next to it stands the Harshat Mata Temple, with fine stone carvings.

Mehandipur Balaji, Dausa

Dausa district is also home to the famous Mehandipur Balaji Temple, which our itinerary includes on the same day.
