Ranthambore National Park in Rajasthan is one of the best places in the world to see a wild tiger. Its dry forests, lakes and the ruins of a thousand-year-old fort make every Ranthambore safari feel like a scene from a documentary.
- Location: Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan
- Safari types: 6-seater jeep (gypsy) or 20-seater canter
- Season: core zones usually open October to June; closed in the monsoon
- Our tour: Jaipur – Bundi – Dausa – Ranthambore 6N/7D, ₹27,000 per person
How Ranthambore safaris work
The park is divided into zones. Each safari is allotted a specific zone and a specific vehicle by the forest department, and you stay on set routes with a licensed guide. There are morning and afternoon safaris every day the park is open.
- Jeep (gypsy): 6 seats, more flexible and better for photography.
- Canter: about 20 seats, cheaper and fine for families.
Booking a safari
Safaris are booked online through the official Rajasthan forest department system, with ID details for each traveller. Seats in the popular zones sell out early, so book as soon as your dates are confirmed. In our package, the safari is arranged subject to availability and forest department allotment.
Best time to see tigers
- October to February: pleasant weather, green forest – good sightings.
- March to June: hot, but tigers come to waterholes more often, so sightings are frequent.
- July to September: core zones are closed for the monsoon.
Beyond the safari
- Ranthambore Fort: a UNESCO-listed hill fort inside the park, with sweeping views.
- Trinetra Ganesh temple: one of the oldest Ganesh temples in Rajasthan, inside the fort.
- Village and craft visits around Sawai Madhopur.
